The Kings Speech

(INCLUDE WHAT THIS IS ABOUT..)

Director:

Writer:

Britishness:
A British film would include elements of culture, such as: a UK setting, mainly a British cast, a story line about British life (past, present or future.) This is represented in the media. The nationalities of the scriptwriter, producers and directors are less significant.
The film use be managed and controlled in the UK, European union state and at least 70% of the production costs of the film must be spent on Uk film making activity.

The story  is based on king George the IV of the United Kingdom of Great Britain which has significance about past British life and situations. Every setting in which The Kings Speech was filmed and set was inside of the UK in places which relate to the royal based theme running through the film at all times; filming locations included Buckingham palace, Harley Street, Lancaster House etc. These were traditional royal areas and were a suitable location for filming a film of this kind to present the storyline and characters as royal and people of that time (1930's).

Exhibition:

Box office in the UK-
With a budget of $15,000,000; the film gained  £3,523,102 from the UK alone and exceeded the expectations of Momentum Picture's.

Reception and Reviews:

In the UK and Ireland alone,  the film took £3,510,000 from 395 cinemas. The Guardian claimed that this was one of the biggest takes as it continued three weeks at the top of the UK box office and earned over £3 million for a further four weekends. After being out on UK release for five weeks, it was named the most successful independent British film ever.

The net profit of the film (£20-£25 million) format he cinema release went to the executive producer, Tom Hooper, Colin Firth, producers, equity investors etc.

It was nominated for 12 oscars; this was more than any other filmed released in the same year, 2010. Firth also won best actor and the entire cast won best ensemble. This was the first Weinstein film to win the oscar for best Picture. The film won the People's choice award at the Toronto International Film Festival 2010.

Web 2.0 exchange:

The UK trailer for The King's Speech is different to the US trailer in terms of content, music and sections which were taken from the film and included. The UK trailer is aiming to catch the hearts of the British viewers of the film who may feel emotional towards with the situation and have a personal connection with the time at which the film was set during the late 1930's (1939- the beginning of the second world war.)

There was also a trailer specifically made for the American population; this featured a more humorous view of the events presented in the film as well an element of pride being shown in the trailer as American citizens have the opinion that British people are very proud, modest and intelligent in their decisions. The film is set at a sensitive time in British history  where it was crucial that the right decisions were made. The Us don't usually see the British as unable to do something, the trailer gives an insight to the US that it shows King George VI struggling with his speech; this may have interested the US and encouraged them to watch the film. However the full version of the film emphasises the point that British people are incredibly proud, persistent and sensitive to the times.

sexuality

Definition of sexuality:
Sexual orientation is a romantic pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, woman, both genders, neither gender or another gender.

Explanation of stereotypes associated with this in the media:
Common stereotypes of sexuality are used in the media to present a person's character as the 'norm' in society. examples of these include: Gay's being camp and overly feminine, lesbians being butch and manly and bisexuals being different from everyone else and having a greedy personality. The media may choose to stereotype characters of a 'different' sexuality so that the audience can make assumptions of these people and variation is within the media also.

A selection of TV shows that include the stereotype:

  • Hollyoaks- Dough Carter is a gay character and is presented as a stereotypical homosexual.

  •  Eastenders-Christan is a homosexual with the stereotypical characteristic features of his personality.

  • The Only Way Is Essex- Bobby is gay on this reality TVprogramme; he is presented with his feminine ways and camp attitude.

  • Orange is the new black; this TV Drama features a group of lesbians inside a prison. They are stereotypical lesbians as they are presented as butch and acting manly.

Issues or problems that arise due to the representations include that people may gain a misconception of the characters or people with a 'different' sexuality through the way in which they are represented to have a certain personality and act a certain way. These stereotypical characteristics are not seen in all people of a different sexuality however due to the media reading this image of them, people may falsely judge them.

Blockbuster task- Script

Script for Sound cloud recording for the Blockbuster Task

I have chosen to produce an analysed description on The Twilight Saga; Breaking Dawn Part 2. This is a menacing edition to the previous four sequels of Twilight which continues the combination of Drama, Horror, Romance, fantasy, adventure genre’s. The initial Release date of the film was November 16, 2012.The audience is able to develop the emotions of the characters in the film and feel as though they understand their situation, despite the unrealistic idea of vampires and ware wolves.

PRE PRODUCTION:

Stars that signed up to be involved in the film included: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. These three are the original cast members of Twilight and have remained in the Saga throughout each of the series creating continuity for the fans and allows the audience to engage with the storyline and characters further as a result.
Breaking Dawn Part 2 is part of sequel which has a total of five editions; the previous series include: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (part 1.)
The director of the successful blockbuster was Bill Condon, who worked with writers Melissa Rosenberg and Stephanie Meyer to produce another dramatic film to complete the Breaking Dawn Saga with a budget of $120 million.

Filming began officially in Brazil, 2010 and was done in Vancouver, Canada and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The studios making the film were the Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge and Summit Entertainment.

The 'Breaking Dawn' Twilight film was split into two, therefore the approval was only needed for the two films. The film was given 'The Green Light' in April 2009, following h success of the previous films in the saga. The enjoyment level of the sequel was maintained and therefore the approval was granted to produce Breaking Dawn.  The Breaking Dawn books were number one sellers for a substantial amount of time and therefore it was assumed the film production would also expect this level of interest from twilight lovers.

PRODUCTION:

The blockbuster film was produced by Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer. The production design was done by Richard Sherman. Each of the producers had their personal input into the film to make Breaking Dawn Part 2 a success.

During the production stages, Twilight was filmed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Vancouver, British Columbia; New Orleans.

Despite some speculation about the latest Twilight Saga being believed to be filmed in 3D, Director Bill Condon decided that this was not going to happen and the film would therefore remain being filmed in 2 dimensions (2D.)

Melissa Rosenberg (writer of the film) found the greatest challenge in writing the scripts for the final sequence of Part 2. She quoted: "The final battle sequence is a big challenge because it lasts 25 pages“

The problem in production was the job of casting people for the end battle, as there were hundreds of people required for this scene, the challenged came about trying to keep track of all the characters and their role in the scene/film.

POST PRODUCTION:
It was quoted in an interview with Bill Condon- “thing I learned is movies like this get made more in post-production than they do in production. “

Concerning the level on dependence on special effects in this film, given the fantasy genre which includes vampires and wolves, the film is expected to incorporate special effects which contribute to creating the realistic effect.

There was a need to use CGI for many of the effects, including using werewolves, allowing vampires to travel at super-speed and for the shimmer effect.

The special effects involved included: CGI (computer-generated imagery) wolves were featured in the film, they also were involved in the previous sagas as they were a key aspect of the film. "Because we've been working on this franchise for such a prolonged period of time, we've been able to improve the look from show to show," "We've gone from four wolves to eight to twelve, to sixteen in Part 2."
Bill Condon said that if the second film was to be released in 3D, he would like to shoot it with the proper equipment in "real" 3D not converts it into 3D in post-production. However, it was confirmed on February 12, 2012 that Part 2 would not be filmed in 3D.

In April 2012, the crew and cast, including Pattinson and Stewart, returned for reshoots to pick up some additional shots for technical work with some of the cast and stunt actors. However, these re-shoots did not include any new scenes or dialogue.

MARKETING:

Due to the film being a follow on from the previous saga (Breaking Dawn),the marketing for the second part was not needed as much. There were many forms of marketing that went into developing the first part of Breaking Dawn; this therefore promotes the second part which follows on from this. For example, a 'teaser' poster was created to give fans a sneak peak of some of the content of the film; though the use of images. Also, for Breaking Dawn part 1, MTV released the first official teaser trailer on June 5; this advertised the film and created a sense of excitement and mystery for the audience as the trailer doesn't give much away. Cinema advertisement was used as a marketing technique designed for people who enjoy regularly visit the cinema to increase awareness of the blockbuster, radio adverts.

The premier was located in Odeon Leicester Square, London. More than 6,000 fans waited to see the stars from the film. This was an opportunity for fans to meet the cast of the popular series and was enjoyed by many.

Representation

Doug Bihlmaier:

After analysing the image shown on him without any information, I guessed his age to be around late 50's, early 60's. Due to his patchwork trousers, baggy shirts and unshaven beard, i felt that this looked scruffy and therefore this gave me the idea that he was homeless, had a tough life and was very poor. I also came to the assumption that he was low class due to these factors.
As he is holding a cigarette in the image, this gives me the impression that he has poor health and is careless of the harm he is doing to his body. I thought that he may be smoking for comfort as he has presumably had a tough life.

About Doug Bihlmaier:
Bihlmaier has an extremely high status job, dressing/furnishing the Ralh Lauren stores around the world. He is in charge of the decision making about what objects go into the stores.

Ted Bundy:

By looking at this image, i developed an overall positive representaiton of Ted Bundy. I thought that he appeared high class as he was smartly dressed and maintained his appearance (no facial hair etc.) I belived that he was inteligant due to seeing that he was reading which also gave me the idea that he had a well paid job and was wealthy. He seemed serious in this image and therefore i was given the impression that he was working while the image was taken. Another factor that led me to beliebe that Bundy was wealthy was due to his trendy, clean clothes. He looked around the mid 30's ages and foreign as his skin was slightly tanned.

About Ted Bundy:
He was an American serial killer, rapist, kidnapper, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s. Bundy then was executed due to the to truth about him committing 30 homicides in seven states between 1974 and 1978.

Anna Piaggi:

Without information on 'The Woman', i developed a representation of her. I felt that the image brought across an excentric, lively character who seemed to express a large personality. I made this judgement fue to her looking overdressed and as a person who likes ot stand out fromt he crowd through the bold, bright and clashing colours involved in her outfit on the image. As she stand out, this gave me the idea that she could be lonely. I got the impression that she was over 50 and enjoys being the centre of attention. Her clothes look expensive however they could be from charity shops or be fake goods. Despite this, Anna looks happy in the image.

About Anna Piaggi:
wrote for fashion magazines such as the Italian edition of Vogue. She dressed in an exuberant, unique and eclectic way, never appearing in the same outfit more than once in public. Such was her influence and knowledge in the fashion world, she was known as "The world's last great authority on frocks".
